How to Choose the Perfect Bra – Measurements and Understanding Your Size

Why Does a Well Fitted Bra Matter? Comfort, Body Shape and Health

A well fitted bra makes a huge difference. It affects your comfort, body shape and even your health. If you cannot wait to take your bra off at the end of the day, it may be a sign that something is wrong. A bra should not dig into your skin, ride up or keep moving around. The right model should feel comfortable and supportive all day long.

A poorly fitted bra can cause back pain, shoulder pressure and everyday discomfort. It can also change the shape of the breasts and affect posture. On the other hand, a well fitted bra supports the bust, relieves pressure on the spine and improves body proportions. The breasts look more lifted, the waist looks more defined and clothes fit much better. A small detail like this can really improve confidence.

How to Measure Yourself Properly Step by Step

The first step is knowing your correct size. All you need is a measuring tape and a few minutes.

1. Measure Your Band Size

Stand straight and measure around your ribcage, just under your breasts. The tape should feel snug and stay level around the body. It is best to measure after breathing out. Round the result down, for example 87 cm means a band size 85. Bra bands stretch with wear, so the band should feel firm and supportive.

2. Measure Your Bust

Measure around the fullest part of your bust, preferably while wearing a soft bra without padding. The tape should touch the body without squeezing the breasts. Write the result down.

3. Calculate Your Size and Check the Size Chart

A bra size consists of a number and a letter, for example 75C. The number is the band size and the letter is the cup size. The cup depends on the difference between your bust and underbust measurements. It is always worth checking the brand’s size chart or using a bra size calculator.

Remember that every bra style can fit differently. That is why size is only the starting point. The most important thing is how the bra looks and feels on your body.

Important: Treat the calculated size as a guide, not the final answer. Bras from different brands and styles may fit differently even in the same size. Trying bras on is always necessary. In the next part, you will learn how to tell if a bra truly fits your body properly.

Can Your Bra Size Change?

Yes and it is completely normal. Breast size can change throughout life. The most common reasons include:

  • weight changes
  • pregnancy and breastfeeding
  • hormones and the menstrual cycle
  • age and menopause
  • changes in lifestyle or physical activity
  • wear and stretching of the bra itself

That is why it is important to measure yourself regularly. Ideally every few months or whenever your bra no longer feels right. Sometimes changing the band or cup size is enough to feel comfortable again.

A well fitted bra does not only improve the way your body looks. Most importantly, it gives comfort, support and confidence every single day.
